This event, bringing together several researchers from the UK, together with local researchers in string algorithms led by Bill Smyth, was held 3-5 July in the Information Technology Building. Many open problems in stringology and bioinformatics were discussed, including a collection of interconnected topics introduced by Professor Iliopoulos of King's College London. Several on-line participants also took part via Skype.
StringMasters was introduced here at McMaster in 2007 as a new model for scientific meetings and, as shown under Previous Venues on the conference website:
http://arg.cas.mcmaster.ca/~franek/Stringmasters2017/Stringmasters%202017.htm
has been held almost 30 times since. This meeting made significant progress with several fundamental problems, and corresponding research papers are expected to be submitted as a result.
