See http://www.ece.purdue.edu/~echong/des_tc/ for information on the DESTC. Notice the delimiter between articles/contributions in this newsletter. If you are using an editor to read this article, you can go directly to the delimiter by searching for the string "_.__" (underscore, period, underscore, underscore). This feature is useful for quickly skipping to the next item. _._________________________________________________________________________._ Announcements _._________________________________________________________________________._ Contributed by: "M.Fu" Michael Fu will become the Simulation Area Editor for Operations Research, beginning in January 2000, and encourages the submission of your highest quality simulation-related papers to him at the journal. It was once the home of Fort Pitt, the most expansive British fort in the New World. Today, this urban oasis is the site of a restored blockhouse and museum, a 150-foot-high fountain and plenty of wide open spaces to toss a frisbee or fly a kite. SCOPE 1. Modelling and Simulation Methodologies This stream focuses on the methodologies that drive new developments in the modelling and simulation field. Successful submissions under this stream will specifically address the newest work in this area. Relevant topics will include, but NOT be strictly limited to: Neural Networks Petri Nets Artificial Intelligence Expert Systems Knowledge Systems Fuzzy Systems Others 2. Software Engineering This stream will focus on software development relevant to the modelling and simulation field. This can include work-in-progress and new research and enhancements to existing software. Relevant topics will include, but NOT be strictly limited to: Modelling and Simulation on the Internet Multimedia Systems Languages Parallel and Distributed Simulation Signal Processing Communication Systems and Networks Computer Graphics and Virtual Reality Scientific Visualization Others 3. Industrial Applications and Environmental Systems This stream will address the latest research and developments regarding the industrial and environmental applications of modelling and simulation. Successful submissions under this heading will discuss work-in-progress or research related to the industrial or environmental application of modelling and simulation technology. Please send electronic attachments in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) or MS Word formats. The subject heading of your email must be "MS'2000". The IASTED Secretariat should receive the paper by January 5, 2000. Do not send both hard and electronic copies of your paper. An electronic copy is sufficient. Please provide four keywords to indicate the subject area, one of which should be found in the scope listed above. Include a statement in your cover letter confirming that if the paper is accepted, one of the authors will attend the conference to present it. Please designate a principal author, and provide the full names, affiliations, addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and email addresses of all authors. Notification of acceptance and author kits will be mailed by February 5, 2000. Registration payments are due March 15, 2000. Registration fees received after that date might result in the paper being excluded from the proceedings. Camera-ready manuscripts must be received by the IASTED Secretariat by March 15, 2000. Please send final manuscripts by email in the same format described above, if possible. Do not send both hard and electronic copies of the final manuscript. One copy of the final paper is sufficient. TUTORIALS The IASTED Secretariat should receive proposals for half-day tutorials (3 hours) by January 5, 2000.
