Research Interests
My main area of research is Healthcare Informatics. I'm conducting research on the following topics in e-Health:
- Standardisation of healthcare information representation and dissemination with Health Level 7 (HL7) version 3
- Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and HL7 based Legacy Healthcare Application Integration
- Iimplementation of Shared Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
- Design and development of tools to support integration of e-Health applications using HL7
Other areas of research that interest me are Service Oriented Architecture, Data Mining and Decision Support Systems.
Research Projects
I'm leading a project to integrate a legacy Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) with a remote Hospital Information System to enable the hospital system to make use of the functionality provided by the CDSS. The aim of this project is to enable reliable communication of patient data and CDSS results between the two systems using HL7 v3, SOA, SNOMED (Systematized NOmenclature of MEDicine) and other cutting edge technology. This project is conducted in collaboration with the Computerization of Medical Practice for the Enhancement of Therapeutic Effectiveness (COMPETE), a well-known electronic health research group in Canada.
