Welcome to my home page!
Who?
First off a little about me. My name is Colin Lobo. I'm 21 and currently in my fourth and final year of Mechatronics Engineering at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. The main reason I choose Mechatronics Engineering in particular is because it's a multi-disciplinary field of engineering. I get a chance to learn about different technical areas. I've lived in Hamilton most of my life after moving from Toronto when I was very young. I went to St. Ann Catholic School from ECE to Grade 8 and Cathedral High School from Grades 9 to 12. A ton of memories from both schools and many good friendships as well! I love reading, playing videogames, travelling, playing soccer, and learning about new and different things. I've been to pretty much every province in Canada except Newfoundland and the three Territories. Favorite place in Canada? Well, that would be Halifax. I went there in the summer of 2009 and it was an amazing place. Oh, by the way that picture to the left is me in a lighthouse overlooking the Bay of Fundy. It's the location of the highest tides in the world and is also a finalist for the 7 New Wonders of Nature which I don't find surprising at all! I've also been to England, Netherlands and India. India I've been to three times now and all three times I've spent in Goa visiting relatives. My plans for the future? Well, I first want to graduate from McMaster University and get my degree in Mechatronics Engineering. Then hopefully start working full-time after graduation or maybe even take a year off and just travel the world (who doesn't want to do that eh?). My dream job? Well I've always been fascinated with space and working with the CSA or NASA would be pretty awesome. Finally I leave you with one of my favorite quotes, "Remember, the enemy's gate is down!". This is from Enders Game by Orson Scott Card, one of my favorite novels. It has many different meanings and is up to the interpretation of the reader. To me it means: 'think outside the box'. You'll have to read the book to understand why though!
What?
This is a very simple page put together using XHTML & CSS. The idea was to just keep it simple while following the standards laid out by W3C for web design. I've also included a validation link at the bottom of the page to show it is in fact valid! So far the site consists of a blog of sorts, a books review page, a miscellaneous links page and a contact page.
Why?
I've always wanted to create my own personal website just for fun so as a little project over the summer (2010) I started this one. Also since the CAS department gives students a little bit of server space that made it even easier to start. So, kudos to the CAS department for that!
How?
I have been using two great tutorials which are HTMLDOG and W3 Schools. I highly recommend both if your interested in learning yourself. I've also been using Notepad++ to write the code which is an amazing free source code editor! Finally, to upload the files I use FileZilla.
