Prior to coming to Canada, I enjoyed life in Turku, Finland. From April 95 to August 96 I was researcher at TUCS and from January 97 to July 97 Acting Associate Professor in the Computer Science Department (now Department of Information Technologies) at Åbo Akademi.

I did my doctoral degree working at the Forschungszentrum Informatik, Karlsruhe, Germany from April 89 to December 94 as a research associate (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter). My thesis on "Refinement in Object-Oriented Program Construction" (Verfeinerung in der objektorientierten Programmkonstruktion) was defended in December 94 at the Universität Karlsruhe. My supervisor was Prof. Dr. G. Goos.

From April 85 to March 89 I completed a Diploma in Computer Science (Informatik) at the Universität Karlsruhe with minor in CAD for mechanical engineering. The diploma thesis “Verification of an Assember for the MC 68000 Processor” was supervised by Prof. Dr. G. Goos. This was after completing the Pre-diploma (Vordiplom) in Computer Science from October 82 to April 85 at the Universität Stuttgart with a minor in linguistics.

When not sitting in front of my Mac or Surface, I enjoy skiing, snowshoeing, canoeing, hiking, and cycling. I play tennis at the Burlington Tennis Club. I am also an avid photographer.
